The Kid-Proof Guide to Choosing Wallpaper

The Kid-Proof Guide to Choosing Wallpaper

One of the most fun tasks expectant parents have is designing and decorating their child’s room. Parents decorate a nursery as a space that holds their hopes and dreams for their little one. Wallpaper provides a unique opportunity to really tailor your design to your child with an attention to detail that paint cannot provide. Wallpaper is durable and may be scrubbed clean with non-abrasive scrub brush, dish soap and water!

There are several approaches to wallpapering a kids room.  We detail those below.

Accent Wall

One way to bring design and pattern to your nursery or kid’s room is with an accent wall. Since the crib is already a focal point, it makes sense to apply wallpaper on that wall. If you are working with big kid bunk beds, choose the wall with a dresser or desk for the most visible impact. Accent walls without windows or doors are an easy installation because you don’t have to work around corners or door trim. It also makes it so much easier to change the wall style if you want to update the room for your child’s next phase or interest.

Full Room

If you are looking for your room to have seamless decor, there really is no bigger impact than wrapping all of the walls in the room with wallpaper. Because kid spaces tend to have lots of items in general, I recommend choosing a large scale print or a mono-toned print.   Florals, Ombres and plaids are all favorites!

Murals

Why choose a repeating pattern when you can tell a story across your wall? A wallpaper mural is custom scaled to your walls and printed with numbered panels at the bottom so you can easily install a masterpiece in your child’s room.

Grow with Me Neutrals

Parenthood is a rewarding and exhausting season of life. It definitely makes sense to choose a wallpaper that your child will appreciate for a long time so you don’t find yourself spending time updating the walls a few short years later. Choosing a subtle pattern and neutral color can ensure that walls don’t feel baby-ish to your child as they grow up, especially if you choose to apply a traditional unpasted wallpaper with longevity in mind.

Running a Panel Horizontal for Big Impact

Some customers choose to run a single panel of a design across their child's wall to accommodate their budget without loosing out on style!  We just love how this mom jazzed up her boy's shared bedroom.  She worked directly with our designer to customize the large scale pattern (for free) to run horizontal across her single panel and so that no triangles were chopped off and it fit perfectly within the height dimension.  We were blown away when we saw the impact this single panel of wallpaper made in this bedroom!

Peel and Stick Wallpaper Decals

Our last suggestion is budget friendly and oh so cute!  Wall decals.  You can purchase wall decals from almost anyone, but ours are higher quality, because we print them using our amazing peel and stick wallpapers.  Accent above a bed or toy shelves.  Many of our decals are one piece, which means no seams.  The best part about a wall decal is that they are installed in seconds, and removed just as quickly.

I hope this has helped inspire you as you are dreaming and planning for your child’s space. A room that sparks imagination and provides a safe place to dream is always the ultimate goal!
